Linocut
What is Linocut?
Linocut is a printmaking technique where a drawing or photo is cut into a linoleum plate with a lino cutter. After that the linoleum plate is inked with a brayer, and then pressed onto paper or fabric. The printing of this linocut can be done by hand or machine.

What tools are used?
The tools that are used for linocutting are a bayer to ink the linoleum plate with ink, a linoleum plate to cut the design in, an inking plate to make your linocut on, a barren to press the ink on the linoleum plate and last but not least, the lino cutter set to cut te design on the linoleum plate.

From picture to linocut...
Step 1:
First of all I had to choose a picture of an animal, human or object. I chose this woman, the reason for that is because I think this is a beautiful and elegant woman. After I chose this picture, I printed it out.
Step 2:
After I printed out my chosen picture, I drew it on a linoleum plate. The next step was to start cutting out the picture by using the lino cutter set. Here you can see the linocut, when I had just began with cutting.
Step 3:
When I finished cutting out my linocut, I had to roll over it with ink, using a brayer. After that I pressed the ink onto a piece of paper using a barren, so the ink would be equally divided on the paper.

I had never heard of making a linocut before, so I actually did not really know what to do and how to make this linocut, but after some research and explanation of the teacher I finally got it. I just had to choose a picture, print it out, cut the picture on a linoleum plate, then roll over it with ink and finally press it on a piece of paper and voilà, done. It was actually a lot more difficult then I thought, because you had so be very precise to be able to cut all those small details. Besides that I also had to press the linocut with ink several times on a piece of paper to get the maximum result out of my linocut. However I think this was really cool to make, I enjoyed doing this and I think the result of my linocut looks awesome.
